چکیده

the three-dimensional search area In this paper, we propose an efficient technique for tracking three-dimensional palm motion, which is captured by two cameras. If we perform template matching independently for each image, two points in two images do not always correspond to each other. Thus we propose to set the search area in the three-dimensional space, not in image planes, so that we can find the correct correspondences. The three-dimensional coordinates of the search area are projected on each image plane. We perform template matching at the projected point in each image. We add those two similarities and use it as a similarity at the three-dimensional coordinates. We search for the position that has the maximum similarity in the search area. When hands are crossing, we cannot track an occluded palm because the palm region is occluded by an occluding palm. Still at that situation we can track arm regions. We use the arm tracking result to solve the occlusion of hands.

Neural Network Performance Analysis for Real Time Hand Gesture Tracking Based on Hu Moment and Hybrid Features

This paper presents a comparison study between the multilayer perceptron (MLP) and radial basis function (RBF) neural networks with supervised learning and back propagation algorithm to track hand gestures. Both networks have two output classes which are hand and face. Skin is detected by a regional based algorithm in the image, and then networks are applied on video sequences frame by frame in...

Applying mean shift and motion detection approaches to hand tracking in sign language

Hand gesture recognition is very important to communicate in sign language. In this paper, an effective object tracking and hand gesture recognition method is proposed. This method is combination of two well-known approaches, the mean shift and the motion detection algorithm. The mean shift algorithm can track objects based on the color, then when hand passes the face occlusion happens. Several...

Simultaneous Tracking of Both Hands by Estimation of Erroneous Observations

The articulate motion of the hand makes it very difficult to track the hands while performing a gesture. Simultaneous tracking of both hands needs to deal with large interframe variations in shape, clutter and mutual occlusion. In this paper, we present a robust method for localizing the hand region by tracking even in the presence of severe occlusion. We develop a model for tracking two rectan...

A Dynamic Model for Real-Time Tracking of Hands in Bimanual Movements

The problem of hand tracking in the presence of occlusion is addressed. In bimanual movements the hands tend to be synchronised effortlessly. Different aspects of this synchronisation are the basis of our research to track the hands. We propose a Kalman filtering-based dynamic model to catch the movement of the hands. The spatial synchronisation in bimanual movements is modelled by the position...

Real Time Hand Gesture Recognition Including Hand Segmentation and Tracking

In this paper we present a system that performs automatic gesture recognition. The system consists of two main components: (i) A unified technique for segmentation and tracking of face and hands using a skin detection algorithm along with handling occlusion between skin objects to keep track of the status of the occluded parts. This is realized by combining 3 useful features, namely, color, mot...
